Spirit EMS provides advanced critical care transportation through specialized Mobile Intensive Care Units designed for high-acuity patients who require intensive monitoring, treatment, and medical support during transport.

Each MICU is staffed by a highly trained team consisting of a Registered Nurse, Paramedic, and EMT who also serves as the driver. Together, this multidisciplinary team is prepared to manage critically ill patients throughout interfacility transport.

These units provide an important transportation option when severe weather makes air ambulance transportation unsafe or when a patient requires immediate specialized care and ground critical care transport is medically appropriate. This approach can also provide significant cost savings for patients and insurance providers compared with air medical transportation.

Spirit EMS most frequently utilizes its MICU service for high-acuity transfers between hospitals, providing continuity of advanced care while patients are moved from one medical facility to another.

Advanced Monitoring

Capable of invasive hemodynamic monitoring, arterial line monitoring, and additional critical care transport monitoring for high-acuity patients.

Ventilator & Airway Support

Advanced airway devices and a sophisticated ventilator capable of multiple ventilator modes are available during critical care transport.

MICU capabilities include complex medication regimens, chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, and a variety of pharmacologic agents.

Complex Critical Care

Specialized equipment and trained personnel support patients requiring therapies such as intra-aortic balloon pumps and other advanced interventions.
